During August 2011 I will be walking (Struggling) along The Kokoda Trail to raise funds for two very worthwhile charities. One charity is "Home of Hope and Dreams",in Mbarara,Uganda. Home of Hope and Dreams
In 2007 i met David Kamanzi a former street kid who had a passion to reach out to abandoned children who were experiencing the emptiness and destructive lifestyle that once formed his way of living.
He was renting a basic house, but had no electricity or water ,so we got that connected and over the last 3 years i have supported him as he took in 10 very needy kids.With the help of Esther whom he recently married and also Nathan ,a support worker they provide the love and support needed to overcome the tragic start to their lives.
Fortunately a far nicer house was provided with a huge yard for the local kids to play games of soccor every weekend.This gives many in the neighbourhood the opportunity to develop teamwork and have good fun in a safe enviroment.
I want to raise $20,000 to help Esther learn sewing and buy the machines so she can teach the girls that she is reaching out to that have been involved in prostitution an need an alternate way to make a living.
Also needed is $25,000 to buy David a truck so he can become self-reliant and earn enough to be able to provide food,clothing and schooling for his 'adopted' family. He has earnt good money previously as a driver and will make much more with his own vehicle.
David also is involved with a nearby refuge camp and he is hoping to make enough to support some of the families by proving food where possible.The camp has about 1000 adults and kids and the day i spent there was very disturbing seeing so many sick and hungry children living in shocking conditions.
Returning to Uganda in 2010 i was able to meet the kids for the first time and found them to be so loving and appreciative that they had been given a chance so many others in Africa hadn't.
I have returned to Australia with an emotional connection to these wonderful children who saw me as their grandpa. They provide me with a strong motivation for me to take on the challenge of Kokoda. With your help we can bring about some positive outcomes for some deserving people in need of our compassion.

OASIS OF LOVE FOR DESTITUTES IN HARARE ZIMBABWE
Target group:Focus on widows and orphans
Activities:Teach and counsel destitutes,building their hopes by teaching them how to provide food,clothing and improved shelter.Cultivating land to boost food and income.Showing the potential they have and how to use it.
Project Motto:It is non political and non partisan.
It is for the destitutes in urban and rural areas.
Objectives:To create hope in destitutes.To boost the income generating activities and rehabilitate them to be able to stand on their own without support.
Duties and responsibilities:Supervision and coordination of project activities.To ensure that the welfare of the destitutes remains the priority of the project and programme.
Management:This will be composed of people who are experienced and specialized in industrial and vocational training.
Package: The project aims at doing the following for these people.
- Provide food.
- Provide clothing and bedding.
- Provide medicine.
- Support for their education by paying for school fees,buying uniforms and text books.
- Build improved shelters for those with poor houses.
- Money from income generating activities.
- Sales from home craft products.
